All we need

The things you have in life- are they enough? Are you Happy-content? Are you thankful for what God has given to you or do you yearn for more?

Gen 3:1  Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Gen 3:2  And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
Gen 3:3  But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
Gen 3:4  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
Gen 3:5  For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
Gen 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
I would like to use the illustration of Adam and Eve in the garden as an example of "We always want more and the things we have in life are usually not enough for us...or so we think"

Adam and Eve had it all! I mean they lived in paradise! Everything was available to them- food, nature, animals, each other, and most importantly fellowship with God, but in a matter of seconds it all changed. Why? because they wanted more. It doesn't matter how much us humans have we'll always want more! For instance you see what fame and riches do to people- they always want more money, or more fame, etc. The human heart is never truly content. But with God's help we can be. I'd just like to share three steps to "being more thankful and content in life"

1) Get over what's wrong in your life and look at what you've got.
This is probably one of the biggest steps to being discontent. We forget what good things we have and focus on the things we don't have. For example Adam and Eve could eat any of the trees in the garden; I'm sure there were hundreds! But what did they focus on? They focused on what they didn't have- the one tree in the Garden they couldn't eat of. I mean God blessed them SO much. He said they could have everything besides the fruit of that one tree. But they weren't content with that- they focused on the one thing they didn't have and forgot all the things they did have. Don't focus on one thing you don't have guys! I know I do this SO many times. I get focused on things I want instead of things I have.

2) Don't stray away from God's word
Something else Adam and Eve did was forget what God had originally told them -And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. And instead they listened to the lies Satan told them-  And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. Once you get out of God's word the world's pleasures will overcome you.
3) Focus on God not yourself
The third mistake Adam and Eve made was that they started to focus on what they wanted instead of what God wanted. Just know this and practice this and you'll be content, and thankful to God instead of always wanting more- God knows what we need and he will give us what we need; the devil knows what we want and he'll give us that until we've completely lost sight of God and get sucked up into the terrible things of the world. You see what we want isn't always what's best for us! What we want is usually selfish and will not be eternally valuable. But God takes care of us by giving us what we need.

The thing is guys- we are blessed so VERY much. God has supplied all our needs and more! I know that it's thanksgiving week and stuff but we shouldn't just thank God during Thanksgiving but throughout the year because God doesn't just bless us at Thanksgiving-he blesses us all year long! So let's thank him all year long!

thank you god

Brittney Johnson is just your average (and crazy) teenage girl serving an extraordinary God. She loves reading amazing books, writing stories, and dreaming about someday publishing a book. She loves to blog and would be so glad if you read her posts, comment, and maybe even follow

  1. I am content with what I have. :-)

  2. Such an awesome reminder for us all. In a world where people will do anything to live the American dream...very sad. I think everyone needs to hear the message that you said so clearly and skillfully:)
    Have a great thanksgiving, Britt!

    1. Thanks =) Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
