the captive maiden

The captive maiden
by: Melanie Dickerson

book's summary:

Happily Ever After ...Or Happily Nevermore?
Gisela's childhood was filled with laughter and visits from nobles such as the duke and his young son. But since her father's death, each day has been filled with nothing but servitude to her stepmother. So when Gisela learns the duke's son, Valten---the boy she has daydreamed about for years---is throwing a ball in hopes of finding a wife, she vows to find a way to attend, even if it's only for a taste of a life she'll never have. To her surprise, she catches Valten's eye. Though he is rough around the edges, Gisela finds Valten has completely captured her heart. But other forces are bent on keeping the two from falling further in love, putting Gisela in more danger than she ever imagined.

My thoughts:

While Dickerson's book The captive Maiden had a very captive name, theme, and plot I have to say it wasn't as good as I anticipated. The book is a retelling of Cinderella and I thought that Dickerson did a fine job at twisting the story around into a nice book. I think that Dickerson is a great writer but the main reason I did not greatly enjoy this book was because of the lack of suspense. I quickly found myself bored with the story. The love story was as most fairy tales are- love at first sight. The book was very predictable and didn't have much mystery or cliff hanging moments of which I enjoy. I think this book would be a great read for those of you who aren't into the suspense, mystery, and unpredictable endings as I am. I think Dickerson did a lovely job with the story but I just didn't find myself falling in love with the book. I will be reading other books of hers though because even though I might not have loved her book I did like it.

I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars

  1. That sounds like a cute book. But I too, like the mystery/suspense kind of books. But I might check it out when it is available!:)
